Freddy Van Laer

 

Freddy Van Laer was born in Aalst on October 6, 1945. after the music academy he studied clarinet, saxophone, harmony, counterpoint and fugue at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Ghent. He started his musical career at the Music Chapel of the Belgian Navy in Ostend and eight years later he passed the exam of clarinetist with the Grand Wind Orchestra of the Guides in Brussels. Freddy was also a teacher of clarinet and saxophone at the music academies of Tielt and Roeselare. He composed several works for organ, piano, chamber music, clarinet, saxophone and orchestral works. In 1985 he was awarded the "Provincial Prize of East Flanders" for his symphonic work "Arcana" for chamber orchestra.
Several of his works have been published by Andel. Also recordings of Mars 6th Transmission Troops and Mars of the 9th Lanciers by the Music Chapel of the Guides.
