Roland Cardon (1929 –2001)

 

He received his first music lesson from his brother Denis, where he learned clarinet and the note system. He became a member of the Royal Harmony "St. Cecilia of the Christian People's League" in Ronse and the conductor Maurice Flamant advised him to go to the music academy in Ronse. There he studied note theory, flute, cello and saxophone. After the Second World War, Cardon began his music studies at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent. After obtaining the diplomas for flute and chamber music, he completed his studies at the Royal Conservatoire in Liège harmony, counterpoint and fugue with Sylvain Dupuis.
In 1954 he joined the Music Corps of the 12th Brigade in Aarlen as a solo flautist. In 1957 he became conductor of the music corps of the 4th Brigade in Liège. The music corps of the interior forces in Aarlen appointed him their conductor in 1963. In 1973 he succeeded Charles Frison as conductor of the Music Chapel of the Rijkswacht in Brussels. He remained in this position until he retired on 31 December 1981.
In addition to his work as conductor of military orchestras, he was also a much sought-after teacher and teacher at the music academies and conservatories. From 1963 to 1972 he was responsible teacher for woodwinds and music in the orchestra in the music school of Aarlen. From 1973 to 1982 he learned flute at the music academy in Vilvoorde. He also learned flute from 1973 to 1977 at the Rijksmuziekacademie in Etterbeek. From 1974 to 1977 he was a teacher for HaFa management at the Royal Music Conservatory in Brussels. From 1 January 1982 to 1 July 1994 he was director of the urban conservatory in Ostend
Roland Cardon died on August 18, 2001.
